Today's elite eight round of games in Georgia's state tournament was a thrill to watch. The Westside Patriots and Washington County Golden Hawks girls teams advanced to the Class AAA final four. The Hepzibah Rebels girls team battled before ending a fine season, as did the Aquinas Fighting Irish boys squad, who eventually fell to powerhouse Whitefield Academy.
The night's most exciting memories may have been delivered by the Laney Wildcats' boys and girls teams, who each advanced to Class AA's final four round after both teams defeated Morgan County. The Lady Wildcats won in thrilling fashion, overcoming a 37-22 halftime deficit before seemingly capturing a 66-64 victory in regulation. But Morgan County's last shot was ruled good and the Wildcats needed overtime to secure the 69-66 victory. (See the video below to see Morgan County's buzzer beating shot.)
The Laney boys won in more convincing fashion, 71-59. Enjoy the post game interview (top of the screen), featuring Laney's head boys coach Jerry Hunter and Clemson guard and Laney Alum Rod Hall.
