Butler Looks Good Early

Beginning Sunday evening, we are posting as much information and highlights as possible about the unofficial "first weekend" of the high school basketball season in, and beyond, the greater Augusta area. ABR Live was present Saturday (November 10) at Evans High School for the Hoops preview scrimmage games, featuring some of Georgia and South Carolina's finest basketball programs. And we also observed a tournament of a different kind, the Crusader Classic in Ludowici, Georgia, featuring some of the southeast's finest "prep school" and independent school teams. Here we post stories and highlights from both events!

Butler is a consistently competitive team.  This year's group appears to be no exception.  6'6" senior Ronald Jones is surrounded by a capable mix of inside and outside players.  One Butler guard, 6'3" sophomore Dontae Coleman, played particularly well in Saturday's scrimmage.  My partner Will Avery paid the young man a significant compliment afterwards:  "Dontae was the best player on the court tonight," Avery commented.  This remark is particularly noteworthy because Spring Valley sophomore guard PJ Dozier, a player highly regarded by basketball observers at the national level, was on the opposing team.

Coleman is not featured in the highlights above.  We plan to release highlights of the young guard soon.
