Tuesday's Monster Match-Up

I have admitted overlooking Glenn Hills in the pre-season "Area Top 10" lists that Will Avery and I shared in an earlier "ABR TV" episode.  The Spartans have opened the season with four wins against quality opponents (Laney, Josey, Evans, and Allatoona).  Coach Travis McRae's squad will face a difficult test Tuesday when class A state playoff runner up Athens Christian comes to Augusta.  The Eagles' only loss in the last 28 games came in last season's state championship game.

Athens Christian is not new to our area.  The Eagles defeated Greenbrier 74-44 on the road Saturday.  The class A power features 6'4" sophomore Will Jackson, whom ABR Live resident "expert on the scene" Will Avery tweeted the following about during Saturday's game against Greenbrier:  "2015 PG Will Jackson has the most upside of any player I've seen this year."

As the video above shows, Jackson shot from deep, scored off the dribble, and created easy opportunities for teammates Saturday.  But Glenn Hills' specific strengths are well suited to defending a dynamic guard like Jackson.  Coach Mcrae relies on several athletic guards with good size to create pressure defensively.  And these Spartans guards can score as well.  Aubrey Mcrae (6'3" junior), Naquan Turner (6'2" senior), Santo Nina (6'2" junior), and Aaron "Toot" Williamson (6'0" sophomore) all shoot well from outside, run the floor, and attack the basket.  See the Spartans in action in the video below.

It will be interesting to see Glenn Hills' size, athleticism, and depth matched up against the sophomore phenom from Athens.  And it will be interesting to see what has thus far been our area's most impressive team matched up against what has so far been our area's most impressive visitor.
