Aquinas Equals Region Champs

Aquinas defeated Wilkinson County 73-65 last night to claim the region 7A-A title. They were looking for revenge after losing by just one point to Wilkinson Co. last year in the region championship game.

The Fighting Irish openend the game on a 6-0 run. Wilkinson Co. then went on an 8-2 run of their own to tie it up. The first quarter ended in a tie, 15-15. Ahmed Hill scored 11 of his 38 points in the First quarter.

After trailing most of the Second quarter Wilkinson Co. went on a 12-0 run to end the half 36-29. This was their first lead in the half. Their were five times throughout the First when the score was tied.

Aquinas regained the lead late through the Third quarter and stayed on top until the end. Wilkinson Co. tried to capitalize on Michael Scott having to sit out most of the third due to foul trouble, but Hill was just too much. Wilkinson tried to deny Hill the ball but he knocked down back-to-back three pointers including the three to regain the lead. The Third quarter ended 51-50 in favor of Aquinas.

After sitting most of the Third due to foul trouble, Michael Scott was energized and ready to play in the Fourth period. Scott scored 9 of his 20 points in the Fourth. Aquinas scored 22 points in the Fourth. The Irish knocked down 15 free throws in the last five minutes of the game to seal the deal.
