Who Dat...We Dat... Laney Wildcats Undefeated

"It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be!"

This bold statement read loudly from the freshly printed Region 3-AA Champions shirts fans were wearing in support of their Lady Wildcats victory last week! The Ladies from Lucy C. Laney High didn't rest there. The Lady Wildcats defeated Taylor County (16-14) by a score of 60-28 Friday night to advance to the Elite 8 and to remain a remarkable undefeated (28-0) on the season.

Taylor County was the first on the board Friday night after winning the tipoff and scoring on a fast break towards  the goal but that 30 second lead was all Taylor Co. could hold onto for the remainder of the evening. Laney used there forceful full-court press and height advantage to out-press, out-rebound, and simply out-score the Lady Vikings from Taylor County.

Laney was lead by Baylor commit Khadijiah Cave with 16 points and sharp shooter strong forward Simone Smith adding 10 points. Taylor County was led by Xiondra Smith with 11 points.

As I exited the gymnasium Friday evening I could not get enough of the atmosphere: Laney's Hyped Cheerleaders  chanting and stepping to the sounds of "Who Dat... We Dat... We Undefeated!" and the winning team humbly shaking hands and  calmly exiting with mere cockiness but all confidence.

Then there was I: Staring lonesomely into the rafters idolizing the Lady Wildcats 2006-2007 Final Four Banner waving briskly for myself to see. There I thought silently to myself, "There is room for more, they know they are good, but how good do they want to be?"

Laney must wait and see until Saturday evening arrives to see who there opponent will be from the battle between Mcintosh and Pelham as they are one game away from the Final Four.

Sincerely,

ZWILLY
