King James Action: Garden City All Stars 12U vs

Augusta Basketball Report is broadcasting live at our iHigh Portal from the King James Southern Exposure Tournament in North Augusta, SC.  The tournament is noteworthy because it features some of the best AAU teams in the southeast United States.  And this is the first of two "evaluation weekends," when college coaches can evaluate high school players during an AAU tournament.  In addition to the live streaming broadcast, we are "live tweeting" from our Twitter feed (@AugBball), and we are updating this site with highlights, news, and commentary.

We have place a lot of emphasis on this weekend's oldest competitors.  But the King James Southern Exposure tournament featured many teams in the middle school age groups as well.  The Garden City All Stars is an Augusta based AAU program that serves over 50 boys in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.  The team began playing AAU basketball last November!  Enjoy the highlights of these young men competing in the 12u division at Augusta Christian Schools.

Skill Development with Coach Chad

Starting Monday, July 11, I will be conducting workouts at Patriot's Park from 7AM to 9AM on weekdays.  Players can work from 7AM to 8AM, from 8AM to 9AM, or from 7AM to 9AM.

I will emphasize shooting, dribbling, and passing skills.  The players will learn the proper methods to perform these fundamental skills.  They will also learn to use these skills in game situations, playing in one on one, two on two, three on three, and possibly five on five games, depending on the level of participation.

Deliberate practice of the fundamental skills is the key to player improvement.  It is also fun!

Lessons Learned

Time flies and it seems there is little time for reflection.  I happen to be in the same location, on vacation with my family, this Fourth of July holiday weekend as last year at this time.  With a moment to reflect, I recall from last year's trip the image of an internet site visited while killing time during a brief interruption in family activities.  Hslive365.com, a new (to me) site covering high school home school basketball, was a reminder that great home school basketball teams existed and that ours, the Augusta Eagles, was not thought to be one of them.
