The Evans Knights traveled to Jenkins High School Wednesday night for the 1st round of the GHSA State Playoffs. Despite having a 23-5 overall record and winning their sub-region, the Knights would fall to Jenkins 71-61, and be eliminated in the 1st round of the playoffs.
Evans started the game playing sloppy against the Jenkins press coverage. The pressure on Evans forced many turnovers and consequently Jenkins jumped to 24-16 lead. Patrick Lawrence played big in the 1st half, with 10 points, and kept Evans within striking distance. They went into the locker room trailing 41-28.
In the 2nd half, Damion Foreman would step up for Evans and they cut the lead to 10 points. Jenkins would not let up though as they had a size advantage and were able to out-rebound Evans big men. Late in the 4th quarter, Evans closed the gap to 65-57 but that would be as close as they got. Jenkins knocked down the free throws to keep Evans down and end their season.
Evans finished with a 23-6 overall, undefeated in their sub-region and a third place finish in Region 2-5AAAAA.
