Thomson Takes Down Peach Co. in Final Seconds
Wednesday evening Thomson rallied back in the final minute of the game to defeat Peach County in the first round of the State Playoffs.
The Thomson Bulldogs came out to play starting the night with a Sherrod Hart 3-pointer (18 points). Continuing to build off that throughout the first quarter, Thomson led 17-11. The Bulldogs continued their trend in the second, beginning the quarter on an 8-0 run. Which was short lived to a Peach County rally, putting up 11 points in 2 and a half minutes. Thomson held tough ending the half with a 34-26 lead.
To start the second half, Peach County came out a new team and ready to play and began to inch away at the Bulldogs. Thomson was held scoreless for three of the first few minutes to begin the half, cutting their lead to just three after a big Darrell White 3-pointer, 37-40. With five seconds left in the third, and Peach County's Chris Gibson at the line for a potential AND1, the power went out in the entire building. After the lights slowly came back on and 15 minutes later, Gibson failed to hit his free throw ending the third, 47-43.
The Peach County Trojan's momentum was kept alive to begin the fourth going on a quick 10-2 run, taking a 53-49 lead with 4:00 to play. Thomson's Hart drilled a clutch three to cut the lead to just one with a minute and a half to play. Defense kept Thomson in it causing back to back 5 second calls against Peach County, and regained a 58-57 lead with only 43 seconds left. After a Trojan quick basket, followed by a Thomson charge and Peach County's ball with only 10 seconds remaining, you would think Peach County would soon go to the line to seal the deal. But Thomson's defense held tough once again, getting a steal off the inbound and producing under their own basket to take a 60-59 lead and the victory over Peach County to continue to the second round of the State Playoffs.
