Southern Kings 14u AAU Team Returns from Orlando, and Heads to Las Vegas

The Southern Kings 14 and Under AAU basketball team from Augusta, Georgia, is busy this July.  The team returned to Augusta early Thursday morning after winning four of six games in the 14 and Under division of the 2011 AAU National Championships in Orlando, Florida, and they are set to leave early Friday morning for the Fab 48 AAU tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Road trips, tough competition, and winning are all familiar to coach Marcus Gibbons' group of rising freshmen.  This season, the Kings have won the Converse Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia, and the AAU Super Regional Championships at Riverview Park in North Augusta, South Carolina.  The team also finished as one of the top four teams in the Boo Williams Easter Invitational in Virginia and in the Maryland Invitational.

In Orlando, the Kings won two of three pool games before advancing to the Classic Bracket.  After winning their next two games, one against the Augusta Power and the other against UBA, the team lost to the Dayton Salvation Army in the final sixteen.  Click on the video below to see highlights of sharpshooters Jashawn Brooks (#5, North Augusta High) and AJ Gray (#4, Washington County High), point guard Dontae Coleman (#1, Butler High), post player Jamari Griffin (#23, Cross Creek High), and many other talented Kings during the tournament in Orlando.
