Eagles East Coast Tourney Series: Augusta Eagles vs CVHAA Patriots

I have been looking forward to publishing today's feature from the "Eagles East Coast Tourney Series."  The Eagles opponent in the Semifinal game of the tournament, the CVHAA (Central Virginia) Patriots, was as good as any team we faced all season.  Two specific players, guard Daniel Johnson and forward Ben Horner, were particularly difficult to contain.  We have highlighted the use of the screen and roll by the Patriots in a prior post.  Two players that are this skilled and that work together this well put a lot of pressure on any defense.

But eventually Matt Miller, Joseph Jessee, and the Eagles team defense do a good enough job to hold the Patriots under 50 points and many Eagles make big baskets on the way to an Augusta victory and a spot in the championship game.

The 2010-2011 East Coast Homeschool Basketball Championships at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, featured thirty-two teams from ten states.  After winning five consecutive games, the Eagles won the Championship Trophy.  Today's feature is the semifinal contest between the Augusta Eagles and the CVHAA Patriots, a team consistently ranked as one of hslive365.com's top 20 homeschool basketball teams in the country.  The game is played in the Vines Center, the stadium where Liberty University hosts its basketball games.  Each day this week we will publish highlights of one of the games per the following schedule:

Monday:  Augusta Eagles vs FFAI Defenders (Iowa) - Pool Game
Tuesday:  Augusta Eagles vs Lighthouse Eagles (NC) - Pool Game
Wednesday:  Augusta Eagles vs Richmond Spirit (VA) - Pool Game
Thursday:  Augusta Eagles vs CVHAA Patriots (VA) - Semifinal Game
Friday:  Augusta Eagles vs Lynchburg Patriots (VA) - Championship Game

Enjoy Thursday's feature.
