Summer Spotlight: Darius Williams

ABR and area high school basketball coaches are combining efforts to conduct summer scrimmages this week and next week, allowing teams like Josey, Evans, Laney, Butler, Greenbrier, and the Augusta Eagles to play and prepare for the June summer leagues and team camps.  Seeing the Josey Eagles play three times this week has given us our first look at Darius Williams, Josey's rising sophomore guard, since the high school basketball season.

We posted on Twitter (@AugBball) a brief clip of Williams draining a three pointer off the dribble during one of the scrimmages.  Those at the scrimmage may wonder why we didn't post Williams' big dunk.  But as we shared on Twitter, we missed it!

But seeing Williams this week reminds us of the huge week he had at the end of last season, beginning with Josey's regular season finale loss against rival Laney, and ending with a victory in the region 3-AAA tournament championship game.  Williams was electric in all four games, shooting from deep, creating turnovers, and finishing (usually above the rim) in transition.  We put together the video at the top of the page to flashback to the highlights created by Williams during that week at the Henry Roundtree Athletic Complex.  Eagle fans must be excited to see Williams, teammate Kyle Doyle, and the rest of coach Jabari Levi's returning squad play in the 2012-2013 season!
