We recently published an update on the Lady Rebels of Hephzibah and the team's recent three game winning streak. Hephzibah's boys team has also won three games in the past six days. And coach Bob Klofenstine's Rebels (3-1) appear to have the talent and the momentum to face what may be its toughest test yet in this young season Tuesday, the Thomson Bulldogs.
6'6" junior Tamyrk Fields gives the Rebels something relatively rare: a post player with good size, good hands, and the ability to score inside. And wing Logan Johnson, a senior who is new to the area, can shoot from deep and knock down the mid range jump shot off the dribble. This pair was effective in Saturday's win over Evans (video highlights above).
Solid play from these and other Hephzibah players will be needed to defend the home court against the Bulldogs. Thomson held a nine point lead late against Westside Saturday, and the Bulldogs' full court pressure defense is unlike anything the Rebels have faced this season. Junior guard Felton Hatcher can score in many ways, but he is most effective attacking the basket, as the video above shows.
We called Hephzibah's girls team a possible "sleeper." A win tomorrow by the Hephzibah boys squad will wake up observers in a big way.
