Region Rivalry Promises Exciting Play and Passionate Fan Support

by Brandon Sizemore, ABR Live Reporter

Friday night the Lakeside Panthers will travel to region foe Evans in a battle between two schools with very different records but both focused on a Region 2A-AAAAA Championship. Lakeside enters the game with a 2-2 record in the region, with all 4 region games decided at the buzzer. Evans is sporting an undefeated 4-0 record after having several close calls.

Lakeside's four region games have been decided by fewer than 2 points on average, including a 1 point loss to Evans earlier this year.  Last Friday Lakeside's Bryce Adair hit this winning shot to slide past Greenbrier.

Evans is also no stranger to buzzer beaters, however they have been on the winning side of each. 3 of their 4 region games have been decided by 3 points or less. Their 57-56 win over Lakeside this year saw Lakeside's BJ Raymond put up a shot at the buzzer only to see it fall short, resulting in a victory for Evans. Watch the highlights below:

This region rivalry has the makings for a great game. Both teams are in position to make a run at the region championship; but there is more to this game than just the basketball that will be played. Lakeside and Evans have two of the best student sections in our area. The students are passionate about their high schools, and it shows. The impact that they have on their teams is clearly evident in the close games both teams have had. The atmosphere on Friday will be electric.  Expect the noise at Evans High School to register on the Richter Scale. Come expecting a great game and throw out all predictions on this one!

The girls game begins at 8:30.
