Thoughts from Tuesday: Guards Right Across the Border

ABR Live contributors Will Avery and Carey Rich are planning to debate soon about which area has better guard play:  the greater Augusta area, or South Carolina.  Avery will argue on behalf of ABR's original home, and Rich will speak on behalf of the Palmetto state.

I have some advice for my good friend Will:  he should stress the meaning of "greater Augusta" and claim North Augusta and Aiken as "his territory!"  If he does, his "portfolio" of solid guards will instantly become stronger.  North Augusta's TJ Sheppard, Aiken's Shawn Moore, and South Aiken's Jordan Dingle (all featured below), have all been great so far this season.  All are scoring tons of points.  And all have very well rounded games.  Check them out!

Thoughts from Tuesday: Sheppard Leads Jackets to 2-0

North Augusta moved to 2-0 with this lopsided win over Evans, a team that brought great momentum into the game after a buzzer beating win over Aquinas Friday.  But guard TJ Sheppard had his second straight good game, scoring 12 first quarter points and leading the Yellow Jackets to a big lead early.  The highlights above show Sheppard's exploits during the first two games of the season.  We look for North Augusta to continue to have success throughout the season.

Hoops Preview Highlights: North Augusta vs Statesboro

Beginning Sunday evening, we are posting as much information and highlights as possible about the unofficial "first weekend" of the high school basketball season in, and beyond, the greater Augusta area. ABR Live was present Saturday (November 10) at Evans High School for the Hoops preview scrimmage games, featuring some of Georgia and South Carolina's finest basketball programs. And we also observed a tournament of a different kind, the Crusader Classic in Ludowici, Georgia, featuring some of the southeast's finest "prep school" and independent school teams. Here we post stories and highlights from both events!

The North Augusta Yellow Jackets trailed Statesboro for much of Saturday's Hoops Preview scrimmage.  But guard TJ Shepard and his capable teammates were eventually too much to handle.  Watch the highlights below.

WACO is on a Run

Gray gets a nice block.  Kitchens buries a 3 from the left corner and tries to follow with another.  The second attempt was short, but teammate Allisha Gray scoops it up and finishes and converts the put back to cut the Columbia lead to 12 at 40-28.

WACO trails Columbia 23-37 with 3:26 left in the 3rd Quarter.

Gray Makes Noise Early in Third

Allisha Gray answered an early third quarter Columbia basket with a long 2 from the right corner.  The Lady Hawks are down 37-21 with just under six minutes remaining in the third.

Foul Trouble an Issue for the Lady Hawks

Allisha Gray picked up her third foul early in the third quarter.  We look forward to seeing if Gray can stay out of foul trouble and help her Lady Hawks mount a third quarter comeback.
