Record (1-1)
After a fairly even first quarter (16-14 Eagles lead), the Eagles were able to make KHCS take tough shots and turn the ball over consistently for the next three quarters, holding the Cougars to only 27 points in that time period. The Eagles outscored KHCS 13-5 in the second quarter, ending with a 4-0 run in the final minute, leading to a 29-19 halftime lead. The Eagles made progress in their second official game by getting more production off of the bench, which enabled players to get rest and stay fresh; forcing turnovers, which led to easy shots; and intelligently attacking the Cougars' defense, which resulted in a 37% field goal percentage (KHCS made only 27% of their field goal attempts).
Good perimeter defense by Matthew Miller, Justin Wilson, Brian Wilson, and Austin Crown and solid position defense inside by Nathaniel Crown and Kip Custer forced KHCS into 14 turnovers in the 2nd and 3rd quarter combined, a time period when the Eagles outscored KHCS 23-15. The Eagles had 14 steals (N Crown - 4, Custer - 3, A Crown - 3, B Wilson - 2). Matthew Miller and Nathaniel Crown led the Eagles in scoring with 17 and 16 points respectively. Brian Wilson and Justin Wilson contributed timely three pointers and hustle plays. Kip Custer was solid handling the basketball and creating open shots for teammates while Austin Crown sat out much of the second half in foul trouble.
