North Augusta Finishes Region On Top

In the final regular season regional (5-AAAA) matchup of the year, North Augusta defeated Dutch Fork, 49-36. The win means that North Augusta claims a top two spot in region 5-AAAA and will host a Class AAAA playoff game. The victory gives the Yellow Jackets a record of 17-6 overall, 7-3 in region play.

North Augusta jumped out to an early 13-6 lead in the first quarter. Each team struggled to find the basket early on, resulting in a low scoring first half of play. The North Augusta defense caused all kinds of trouble with their agressive style, holding Dutch Fork to just three first quarter baskets. North Augusta's big man, Tavarez Hall made it hard for the Silver Foxes to get any penetration down low, forcing tough shots.

The Silver Foxes went on a small 6-0 run in the second quarter to keep the game close. The Silver Foxes, led by Watson Harris, outscored North Aguusta 16-11 in the quarter. TJ Sheppard converted a monster putback dunk before half to take a 24-22 lead into the locker room for the Yellow Jackets.

North Augusta came out of the locker room with a smothering defense, allowing just a single Silver Fox made basket in the entire third quarter. The Yellow Jackets held Dutch Fork to just 14 second half points.

In the fourth quarter, North Augusta stole the momentum and woke the gym up with three monster dunks and good shooting from guard Christian Davis. Malik Dunbar and TJ Sheppard sealed the deal with their two dunks (seen above) and the Yellow Jackets were able to coast to a comfortable 13 point victory.

In a balanced effort, TJ Sheppard led North Augusta with 14 points. Christian Davis scored 10 points and Malik Dunbar tallied 9. Watson Harris led Dutch Fork with 10 points.
